10 D-Uh Moments due to the Tech revolution!
Many people are quite often confounded by the burgeoning reach of technology in their lives. Unseen and unheard in many cases, technology has entered into many of our day to day lives and irrevocably entwined itself into our routines. Even confirmed Luddites have had to embrace email and mobile phones, whether or not they welcomed it with arms wide open!
In this context, there have been many D-Uh moments as we have come to terms with new technology. Here are some mostly fictional D-uh moments people could have encountered..
1. Realizing that tootsiedoll@gmail.com looks a bit inappropriate when asked for "Contact Email" in a Job Application form!
2. Feeling alphabetically challenged when you only know "LOL" while your chat counterpart is typing away merrily with acronyms that make no sense to you..
3. Fiddling around with a device and its battery without knowing which end of the battery goes in first - which puzzle your 6 year old then solves for you!!
4. Looking bemused and tongue tied when folks at a party are busy discussing WII tennis Vs WII resorts, mentally wondering how many times can one say "WII" consecutively without being politically incorrect!
5. Hunting unsuccessfully for a blank audio cassette in the mall and then asking the attendant, who unplugs the Ipod earphone from his right ear and then looks at you as though he just saw a dinosaur!
6. Not knowing how to pick up an incoming Skype call because the window is minimized!
7. Picking up your laptop in the airplane with much hue and cry (tripping over the aisle passenger, pulling down from the baggage loft, out of the bag etc etc) only to see that it has no charge and you left the charger home!
8. Nodding and acknowledging a friend who is approaching at a distance only to see he is actually nodding in conversation with his mobile and hasn't even seen you!
9. Interrupting a conversation midway and raving about what a great invention the Ipod is when the bored looks reach you as well as the fact that the Iphone and then the Ipad have been since invented!
and to finish off, here's my favorite & one in favor of the old fashioned!.. I was just returning from my recent flight when a lady who was on board with me gleefully pointed to her Amazon Kindle and said - you know it worked on the flight! Without batting an eyelid - I pointed to my paperback novel and replied, mine did too! - It took her a few seconds to go D-uh!!!!!!!!
Have you had a D-uh moment with technology! Do share with me and our fellow readers for a few laffs..

ReplyDelete@magic eye, Zindagii Live - Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDelete@LP - rightly said! Just when you think you have it all figured, new tech comes to blow you away. I love gadgets and new tech though, so I am ready as long as Steve Jobs keeps making them..
"Not knowing how to pick up an incoming Skype call because the window is minimized!" -->I am yet to figure how to do that :)
ReplyDeleteNice post !
knowing that I am a software engineer, my aunt asks me that her desktop is facing some problem with installing her webcam. I tried my best, with lil knowledge I have, but failed !!
Thanks Vinod. True - sometimes even maddeningly simple tasks get ahead of us becos some "driver" or other software does not work as expected!
