Zeitgeist

When we began tossing ideas for what this blog represents, one of the words that came to my mind was "Zeitgeist"! Immediately, Smi, my co-conspirator/blogger/confidant caught on to the word and begged me to purge it! Armed with some German, she said she doubted if the readers are going to see the point of what Zeitgeist was all about.

I have always been quite a linguaphile and words fascinate me
simply for being themselves. Some words are so full of meaning and feeling that it is difficult to find words to describe them better, because their entire meaning is beyond containment in words or language!

"Zeitgeist" I believe is just one such word! Dictionary.com describes this as "the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time". Surely, that is a definition that falls mighty short since I feel Zeitgeist is like the aroma of coffee that hangs around in Starbucks - but applied to an entire era or culture. It is there in every molecule that envelopes a certain kind of thinking and yet pretty invisible in its existence. It is a social and cultural mileau, a way of thinking, a mode of life!

It is the space that exists between people that are extremely comfortable with one another that they dont have to speak to be heard! I hope that this blog conveys the spirit of a bunch of girls who are extremely close friends that share a lot of thoughts and time together and it is an attempt to document our ideas , thoughts and often humourous discussions and allow outsiders a little glimpse into our own world.
